APEX OTA CONSORTIUM COMING SOON ANNOUNCEMENT
ANNOUNCEMENT: APEX-CSA-002
DATE: 6 February 2025
PROJECT NAME: Indo Pacific (IPacific) Advanced Biomanufacturing (BioMan) Prototype Project
AUTHORITY: 10 U.S.C. §4022 (Prototype Projects)
CUSTOMER: United States Air Force Research Lab (AFRL)
KEY TECHNICAL AREA(S): Microelectronics, Emerging Technologies
DESCRIPTION
The Department of Defense (DoD) has an emerging need for advanced biomanufacturing capabilities to support operational readiness in contested environments (particularly within the Pacific region). Challenges such as geographic isolation, resource scarcity, and logistical constraints increase the vulnerability of traditional supply chains and underscore the necessity of innovative solutions.
Biomanufacturing technologies offer the potential to address these challenges by enabling on-site production of critical resources. Leveraging renewable or locally sourced feedstocks, these solutions can reduce reliance on external supply chains, enhance sustainability, and align with DoD priorities for modernization and operational resilience.
This IPacific BioMan prototype project will implement a series of field demonstrations and experiments across a wide portfolio of advanced biomanufacturing prototypes, demonstrate suitability for operational use across the Indo Pacific, and develop pathways for technology transition for the most promising innovations.
