PROJECT NAME: Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) 5G Secure Slice Prototype Project

DESCRIPTION
The Future Generation Wireless Technology (FutureG) Office within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Research and Engineering [OUSD(R&E)] seeks white papers from eligible industry and academia respondents focused on creating a secure, optimized slice of a commercial mobile network for us by the Department of Defense (DoD).
Pursuant to 10 U.S.C. § 4022, the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI) 5G Secure Slice prototype project seeks to implement of a dedicated 5G network slice leveraging the commercial Public Land Mobile Network (PLMN), expanded to include a set of critical upgrades and capabilities. The prototype project will design, implement, and test a secure, optimized 5G network slice leveraging the commercial PLMN, with the addition of targeted enhancements and critical upgrades to meet DoD mission requirements. This project will establish an installation-wide, secure, and private outdoor 5G data coverage across NASWI for official and operational purposes. This includes areas such as the flightline, headquarters buildings, housing, and other support facilities. This objective will be achieved through the implementation and management of the NASWI Secure Slice.
CLASSIFICATION: The NASWI 5G Secure Slice Prototype Project will be UNCLASSIFIED.
RELEASE DATE: The expected release date for the request for white papers (RWP) is 1QFY26.
