PIMSC Prototype Project
Coming Soon Announcement
APEX OTA CONSORTIUM COMING SOON ANNOUNCEMENT
ANNOUNCEMENT: APEX-CSA-010
DATE: 17 February 2026
PROJECT NAME: Portable Impedance-Matched Splicing Capability (PIMSC) Prototype Project
AUTHORITY: 10 U.S.C. §4022 (Prototype Projects)
CUSTOMER: Naval Facilities Engineering and Expeditionary Warfare Center (NAVFAC EXWC)
KEY TECHNICAL AREA(S): Emerging Technologies, Multi-Domain Operations
DESCRIPTION
This opportunity seeks white papers for a prototype project under 10 U.S.C. § 4022 to develop and validate a new Government capability for near-shore undersea cable repair, protection, and sustainment applicable to legacy, mixed-generation armored coaxial cable systems operating in high-energy surf environments. The prototype is not a repaired cable, but a validated and repeatable technical framework (including methods, decision criteria, and survivability considerations) for characterizing cable conditions, evaluating alternative repair and splice placement approaches, and informing sustainment decisions under conditions of technical uncertainty, using modification of an existing Pacific Missile Range Facility (PMRF) undersea cable solely as a test vehicle.
The primary deliverable is a Government-owned package of validated methodologies, technical data, and repeatable processes and procedures that do not currently exist and that can be applied to future undersea cable sustainment efforts for Navy and other Department of War (DoW) submarine cables worldwide, independent of restoration of prior cable functionality.
CLASSIFICATION: The PIMSC Prototype Project will be UNCLASSIFIED.
RELEASE DATE: The expected release date for the request for white papers (RWP) is 2QFY26.
