PROJECT DESCRIPTION

DEVCOM ARL seeks solutions for a prototype project to design, develop, and demonstrate next-generation ultra-high-voltage (UHV) (10−20 kV), high-current (≥50 A), single-die silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor devices and associated manufacturing processes not currently available from domestic commercial sources. The NOVASiC prototype project will integrate advanced materials, reliable device architectures, and state-of-the-art fabrication techniques to produce physical, high-performance prototype devices and supporting test data for Government evaluation.

This effort will demonstrate a production-representative manufacturing capability, including the ability to achieve repeatable fabrication at rates consistent with scalable manufacturing (e.g., 1000s of units per year), without requiring sustained production output during the prototype effort. At the conclusion of NOVASiC, performers shall demonstrate the capability to deliver engineered sample parts at quantities sufficient to support Government evaluation of performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

The Government will use the resulting prototype hardware, electrical characterization, reliability results, and manufacturability assessments to reduce technical and production risk and to inform potential follow-on production decisions. This effort constitutes a prototype project as it demonstrates a new or improved component and manufacturing capability directly relevant to Department of War (DoW) mission needs and is not currently commercially available.

The NOVASiC Prototype Project is UNCLASSIFIED.

ANTICIPATED FUNDING

The DEVCOM ARL anticipates a single award and reserves the right to make no awards depending on the solutions received.
