PROJECT OPPORTUNITY NUMBER: APEX-RWP-002-IPAB
DESCRIPTION OF PROTOTYPE OPPORTUNITY
The Department of Defense (DoD) has an emerging need for advanced biomanufacturing capabilities to support operational readiness in contested logistics operations. Challenges such as tyranny of distance, resource scarcity, and logistical constraints increase the vulnerability of traditional supply chains and underscore the necessity of innovative solutions. To address this emerging need, the Indo-Pacific Advanced Biomanufacturing (IPacific BioMan) prototype project will identify a wide portfolio of advanced biomanufacturing technologies and conduct a series of field demonstrations and experiments to determine their suitability and operational utility for use across the Indo Pacific area of operations. Based on the outcomes of those demonstrations and experiments, the IPacific BioMan prototype project will develop scalable technology transition pathways for the most promising innovations and capabilities that address logistical constraints, leverage bio-organic material(s) and renewable feedstocks, and align with DoD modernization goals.
AWARD AUTHORITY: 10 U.S.C. § 4022
The IPacific BioMan prototype project intends to create, design, develop, and demonstrate an operational utility under the authority of 10 U.S.C. § 4022, which enables the Department of Defense to carry out certain prototype projects.
ANTICIPATED FUNDING
A single award in the range of $1M to $2.2M is currently anticipated. The Government reserves the right to make multiple awards depending on the solutions received. It is possible, but not guaranteed, that further funding may become available. If a solution could be enhanced/built upon/expanded/etc. with further funding, please briefly address that in the white paper solution.
