DESCRIPTION OF PROTOTYPE OPPORTUNITY
The JDETO is seeking solutions from academic research institutions to conduct basic research in the laser and microwave portions of the electromagnetic spectrum. This research will advance the state of the art in key directed energy technology areas, including laser sources, beam control and propagation, optics and coatings, microwave sources, antennas, and pulsed power. In support of workforce development, most of this research will be performed by degree-seeking students with oversight from advisors who are leading subject matter experts in their respective fields.
AWARD AUTHORITY: 10 U.S.C. § 4021
The Directed Energy Workforce Development (DEWD) Research Project will conduct basic research under the Department of Defense 10 U.S.C. § 4021 Other Transaction for Research authority, resulting in advancements in key directed energy technology areas.
ANTICIPATED FUNDING
The JDETO anticipates up to ten (10) research awards to project level performers in the form of academic research institutions, totaling $18M (not to exceed). The JDETO reserves the right to make no awards depending on the solutions received.
