PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Government is seeking solutions to develop and demonstrate a prototype Artificial Intelligence–enabled Radio Access Network (AI-RAN) capability for resilient edge processing that integrates communications, sensing, and edge computing within operational environments. No validated AI-RAN-based sensing solution currently exists that operates across controlled, commercial Mobile Network Operator (MNO), and dense operational environments while maintaining telecommunications KPI compliance and enabling integration with layered C2 systems.
This effort will deliver a mission-ready, scalable Minimum Viable Capability (MVC) prototype capable of detecting, identifying, localizing, and tracking low-altitude airborne threats in real time while maintaining communication performance.
Solutions will leverage modular, open architectures and be demonstrated through a phased, incremental approach, progressing from controlled validation to commercial network integration using Digital Twin and continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
The effort will follow a multi-phase, incremental integration approach, supported by Digital Twin testing and CI/CD practices, progressing from controlled validation to commercial network integration. It is anticipated that Phase I will be a single award for up to $20M.
The effort will culminate in a prototype Artificial Intelligence–enabled Radio Access Network (AI-RAN) demonstrating technical performance and operational utility, with a clear pathway to transition, scalability, and potential follow-on production.
The AI-RAN Secure Slicing Prototype Project is UNCLASSIFIED..
ANTICIPATED FUNDING
The Government anticipates that Phase I costs will not exceed $20M. The Government has current funding for Phase I. Funding for subsequent option phases has not yet been determined and will be subject to the availability of funds.
